📱 I Only Have 7 Apps on My Phone — And I’m Still Alive! 🧘‍♀️

There was a time — not too long ago — when my phone was my universe.
It had 73 apps, 142 notifications a day, 5 hours of screen time (minimum), and a serious case of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). 📲

From sunrise to midnight, I bounced from one screen to another like a caffeinated squirrel. Instagram reels, Twitter doomscrolling, online shopping, food delivery, YouTube shorts, Netflix trailers — I wasn’t living life; I was watching it from the other side of the glass.

And then… one day, I snapped.

🚨 The Digital Meltdown

I don’t remember the exact trigger — maybe it was the 3rd video telling me I wasn’t “that girl” because I hadn’t done yoga, journaling, 10-step skincare, and learned French before 8 AM.

Or maybe it was the constant buzzing in my brain that refused to turn off — even when my phone did.

Whatever it was, I had my “main character meltdown.” I stared at my phone. My phone stared back.
And in a rare moment of unhinged clarity, I said, “I’m done.”

🔥 The Purge: Goodbye, Pretty Little Apps

I started deleting.
Instagram: Gone.
Snapchat: Bye.
Twitter (sorry, X): Out.
Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, Flipkart: See ya.
Pinterest, YouTube, Netflix: Not today, Satan.

It was chaotic, impulsive, and somehow… exhilarating. I felt lighter, like I just cleaned out a messy closet in my brain.

When the digital dust settled, only 7 apps remained.

Not 27. Not even 17.

Just 7.

🌟 Meet My Minimalist Phone Crew

Let’s be clear — I’m not living in a cave. I’m not anti-tech. But these are the only apps I now keep on my phone:

1. 📞 Phone & Messages

Obvious? Yes. But these are my lifelines. No matter how off-grid I go, I still need to call mom and get texts from my bestie saying, “WYD at 2 AM?”

2. 🎵 Spotify

Music is my therapy. My mood swings have playlists.
There’s a LoFi list for anxiety, Arijit Singh for sadness, 2000s Bollywood for nostalgia, and Honey Singh for chaos.

3. 📷 Camera

Not for selfies. For moments.
I now click fewer pictures, but each one means more. It’s clouds, my morning chai, my dog stretching mid-yawn — and zero pressure to post.

4. 📅 Google Calendar

Adulting doesn’t stop, detox or not. From work deadlines to “don’t forget your cousin’s birthday,” this app keeps my life semi-organized.

5. 📖 Kindle App

The most underrated escape.
No ads. No noise. Just good old fiction. I’ve read more books in the last two months than I did in all of 2023.

6. 📤 Gmail

Work emails, brand collabs, invoices — can’t ghost my responsibilities completely, right?

7. 💬 WhatsApp

Only for essential convos. No random “Good Morning” groups. No cousin flooding me with “funny uncle memes.” Just close friends, work chats, and voice notes from people who matter.

😱 Apps That Didn’t Make the Cut

  • Instagram
  • Snapchat
  • Twitter/X
  • YouTube
  • Facebook (still exists?)
  • Netflix
  • Amazon
  • Flipkart
  • Zomato & Swiggy
  • Pinterest
  • News apps
  • Productivity trackers
  • Habit builders
  • Meditation reminders
  • Fitness gurus

And guess what?

I didn’t miss a single one.

🔍 Why I Did It — And Why It Worked

I wasn’t trying to “go viral” with a minimalist trend. I wasn’t following a documentary.
I just felt mentally exhausted.

My brain was always “on.” There was no pause. No stillness.
Even when I wasn’t working, I wasn’t truly resting.
Because I was constantly consuming — content, opinions, ads, reels, rants, comparisons.

And when I removed all that noise?

Something incredible happened.

✨ Here’s What Changed

🧠 1. Mental Clarity

No constant scrolling = more space in my head.
I started thinking more clearly, sleeping better, and worrying less about other people’s highlight reels.

🔋 2. Battery Life = Actual Life

My phone battery lasts 2x longer now.
So does my energy. Because I’m not wasting it on endless digital distractions.

⏳ 3. Time Multiplied

Suddenly, I had time. For hobbies. For journaling. For talking to real humans.
I even baked a cake from scratch. Who am I?

🙅‍♀️ 4. No More FOMO

Without social media, I stopped comparing myself to everyone else.
No more “She’s in Bali, I’m in my bed.”
No more “He’s launching a startup, I’m launching a pizza in the oven.”

🤝 5. More Real Connections

I call people now. Like actually talk.
And those conversations? Deeper, warmer, messier, and more meaningful than any text ever could be.

💡 What You Can Try (Without Going Full Monk Mode)

If this sounds extreme — I get it.
But you don’t have to delete everything overnight.
Try this:

🔘 3-Day App Detox Challenge:

  • Day 1: Delete 3 apps you haven’t used in a month
  • Day 2: Log out of social media for 24 hours
  • Day 3: Keep only the 5 apps that genuinely serve your well-being

Notice how you feel. Write it down. Even if you re-download later, you’ll know what peace feels like.

☕ But What About Boredom?

Boredom is a beautiful thing.
It’s where creativity is born.
Without apps, I’ve:

  • Started sketching again
  • Reconnected with old friends
  • Written 7 blog drafts
  • Finished 3 books
  • Made playlists that feel like therapy
  • Actually enjoyed my morning chai without recording it 😌

🧘‍♀️  I’m Not Anti-Apps, I’m Pro-Peace

This isn’t about deleting Instagram forever or being a tech rebel.

It’s about being intentional.

If your apps are tools — awesome. But if they’ve turned into chains, maybe it’s time to snip them.

Life doesn’t happen inside an app.
It’s happening right now — in this moment.
And sometimes, all you need is a playlist, a cup of coffee, and a little quiet.
